How do I disable URL shortening for a specific post?

SocialPilot allows you to disable URL shortening for a particular post without disabling your connected default shortener totally.

By using our URL shortening toggle switch in your post composer, you can easily turn link shortening on and off for a particular post in one click.

Let’s see what happens when we regulate the button.

If the URL shortener toggle switch is on:

Your inserted URL will get shortened.

If the URL shortener toggle switch is off:

Your URL will remain the same as you typed it.

Note: Remember, the URL will only get shortened for the accounts with URL shortener applied in them, and even though you will see the URL getting shortened in the post composer for accounts with no shortener applied, while publishing, their URL will remain the same as they are added initially.

Case - Suppose you have two accounts connected with SocialPilot - Account "A" and "B." So the account "A" has a URL shortener linked with it, whereas "B" has no shortener attached to it.

Still, you will see the URL toggle switch button working under the post composer.

Now, if the toggle switch is on.

The link in the description will be shortened while it is in the Post composer.

But, when you add the post in the queue, after assigning it to both the accounts “A” and “B” :

1

In the “Manage Post” section, the post of account “A” will have a shortened link.

2

In the “Manage Post” section, the post of account “B” will not have a shortened link.

Why? Because no URL shortener was applied for account “B.”

Once published, the post on account “A” will show a shortened URL, and an initially added URL will be shown in the post on account “B.”
Why can't I use URL shortening for Pinterest?

Pinterest API detects the shortened URL as spam. Hence you can’t publish posts with shortened URLs on Pinterest.

Note: To comply with this scenario. SocialPilot only schedules and publish posts containing long URL for Pinterest and also convert the shortened URLs into long ones to avoid any rejection from Pinterest.

Why can’t I see the URL shortener toggle switch below my post composer?

To get the URL shortener toggle switch under the post composer, at least one of your connected accounts should have a URL shortener service added to it.

Click here to know how to connect a URL shortener with a specific account.

Note: You will not see any toggle switch under the post composer, just by connecting a URL shortener as a default URL shortener.

Why can’t I see the URL getting shortened in the Post composer box, even with the toggle switch on?

That is because you do not have any shortener service applied as a default shortener in your SocialPilot account. But don’t worry if you have your toggle switch on, your post will get published with a shortened URL for all the accounts with URL shortener applied.

See, URL’s visual representation being shortened in the post composer happens because of your default URL shortener. But, it has nothing to do with shortening the URL of the post when it gets published. On the safe side, to check whether your URL got shortened for every account, check your post in the  “Manage Post” section.
