What is Average Rating Trend?

The Average Rating Trend is a shaded region line graph that plots your average review rating over a selected date range. Each point on the graph represents the average rating for a day, week, or calendar month, depending on your selected grouping. This metric helps you understand whether your ratings are improving, declining, or holding steady over time.

The Average Rating Trend metric is available in Location Reports and Platform Reports. It is not available in Custom Reports.

If your report is still using the default system template, this metric will be added automatically. If you have previously customized or edited your report layout, you will need to add it manually from the Blocks sidebar.

How to Switch Between Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Views

The graph supports three grouping options: Daily, Weekly, and Monthly. The default is Weekly.

In edit mode, a switcher appears in the top-right corner of the graph block. Click Daily, Weekly, or Monthly to change the grouping.

In view mode, a pill in the top-right corner of the graph shows the currently selected grouping.

How Grouping Works

Grouping follows calendar weeks and months, not rolling windows. For example, if your selected date range is the last 7 days and today is Thursday, weekly grouping produces 2 data points:

  • This week: Monday through Thursday (current week so far)
  • Last week: Thursday through Sunday of the previous week

Monthly grouping works the same way: each point groups all ratings within a calendar month, and a partial current month appears as its own point.

This means the number of data points you see depends on how many full or partial calendar periods fall within your selected date range.

How Facebook Ratings are Calculated

Facebook uses a binary recommendation system (Recommended / Not Recommended) rather than a star rating. For this graph, Facebook ratings are converted to numeric values:

Recommended = 1

Not Recommended = 0

The average is then calculated the same way as other platforms — as a simple mean across all ratings in the grouping period.

All other platforms use straightforward mean averages of their star ratings.

Adding the Metric to a Customized Report

If you have previously edited your report layout, the Average Rating Trend will not appear automatically. To add it:

  • Open your report in edit mode.
  • In the right sidebar, go to the Blocks tab.
  • Search for "Average Rating" or browse under the relevant location or platform section.
  • Drag and drop the block onto your report canvas.

Note: If you want to restore all the latest default metrics, including this one, you can click Reset in the sidebar to return your report to the system default template. This will undo any custom layout changes you have made.
