How To Shorten URLs in Posts in the New Create Post? – SocialPilot

Introduction

Shortened URLs make posts look cleaner, more professional, and easier to read. They also help track clicks and engagement, providing valuable insights into audience behavior. Using a URL shortener ensures links fit within character limits, especially on platforms like Twitter.

You can use Sniply, Bitly, and Rebrandly to shorten URLs with SocialPilot.

First Comment URL

When you need to include a URL in the first comment of a post on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram, you can paste the URL directly into the First Comment box.

The link will be automatically shortened, provided you have a URL shortener set up.

How To Set Rebrandly/ Bitly/ Sniply as Your Default URL Shortener?

After the authorization process is completed, you will be led to SocialPilot's Rebrandly/ Bitly/ Sniply page.

Click on the checkbox 'Set Rebrandly/ Bitly/ Sniply as default URL Shortener' on the right-hand side.

That particular URL shortener will be set as your default shortener.

Note: Even if you have set a default URL shortener, posts will be published only with the URL shortener selected for that particular account.

URL Shortening does not work on Pinterest, as Pinterest flags shortened URLs as spam.

How Does URL Shortening Work in the New Create Post Experience?

The new Create Post experience changes how URL Shortening behaves inside the composer:

The URL Shortener toggle only appears when your caption contains a link.

If there is no URL in the caption, the Shorten URL option stays hidden to keep the composer clean.

The Shorten URL toggle applies at the post level (not platform-wise).

If you turn the toggle ON or OFF, it applies to all selected accounts—even when customization is enabled.

Link shortening works the same inside customized captions.

If you turn on caption customization and rewrite captions per platform, the URL Shortener toggle remains visible and continues to apply globally as long as a link exists.

URL shortening preview

When shortening is enabled, the final shortened link appears in the preview on the right-hand side.

If you disable the toggle, previews update instantly with the full URL.
